When should you be hitting the available code vs the g&a code?

Not gonna lie, I didn't even know we had an available code. I always hit G&A

like

G&a is for meetings that are not client chargeable and or other admin. Available is if you literally have nothing to do and are just sitting in the office.

like

Available code when you don't have anything booked on retain for that day. G&A when senior wants you to eat hours.

like

Ahh ok. I'm in tax. Makes sense now...

like

We have G&A and available in tax

like

Office specific then. My tax group doesn't use available ever (large market)

like

G&A: "G&A". Available: "available". G&A is when you have down time (waiting for something to be reviewed, waiting on PBC) available is when you're unassigned

like

I'm in the socal market in tax. Never heard of an "available" code. We charge it all to g&a

like

If its more than a couple hours hit available

G&A is for expense reports, IT troubleshooting, silly office events, the unavoidable non-chargeable tasks; the rest are available.

So what's the available code? I don't get it. Is the name in t&e "available"?

Available for assurance, g&a for Tax

Pwc6, so then what's the name in t&e and what is it used for?!?

PwC5: It's when you're not on anything in t&e

No available in advisory is there

G&A code has a 6 and available has a 1 or the other way around idk either way it's all 0 utilization

Making a lot of money relative to the average but feeling poor? Median after-tax income was ~$55,000 in 1981 and was ~$73,000 in 2020. Using a Bank of Canada inflation calculator $55,000 in 1981 is equivalent to ~$165,000 today, which would put someone in the top 10% of earners today. But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?

I’m going to be a dad! But I have some questions. When should I tell my manager/teams? I’m up for senior promotion this year, will this impact that promotion? For those of you that work in public what tips do you have for managing your work and family responsibilities? For context, my wife, once she’s done with maternity leave, will only work 25-30 hours a week. I know working in public and having a new born is probably going to be a lot to juggle, but I have to make it work.

Advice needed: looking to leave public accounting and tax for good. I have two offers between a financial analyst and an accountant role. Based on your experience, which of the two has the best/better exit opportunities (should I decide to pursue the finance realm or something else) and better work life balance? The bigger pay as an analyst is tempting, but the company benefits are meh.
