Told some negative things about my job to my interns and they told the boss. Is it bad that I spoke my honest opinion about the office and the boss? (Note I was on my way out).

So, you burned a bridge, but maybe it was already ash. Regardless, you’re brave to be honest and tell them, so they know what they’re getting into.

like

You are honest and kind. That intern is a piece of garbage

like

No - it’s on them for letting you interview someone at that stage. Even if they didn’t know, it’s not a big deal

like

The interns were already working as interns

like

I disagree with the other posters. Depends on what you said, but I think it’s potentially immature and unprofessional to complain about your job to interns, who may be happy and excited about their internship and now will be soured by your negativity. Just because you had a bad experience doesn’t mean they will, and why would you want to predispose them against the company unless it was truly toxic? Let them make up their own mind.

like

Fair point

I would be shocked if that intern gets a job

like

Yeah, the boss now knows two things: 1) OP dislikes his position and 2) intern is a snitch and potential leak of any privileged info told to them.

like

Interns are babies/little kids. Did you expect anything different. ALWAYS keep your opinions/feelings/gossip to yourself. You can listen but never engage. Info/knowledge is power. Keep your ammo until you need it.

like

This is unfortunately why there’s no mentorship in the profession. You can’t have honest conversations, which you need to have in order to learn and grow.

This seems very true. Always fake positivity

Next time you see your old boss it might make sense to talk to them about it. That’s a relationship that might be worth repairing. You probably should have discussed the issues with them before you left, rather than gossiping about it. You can take ownership of that. Shows integrity and costs you nothing.

As for the interns, that’s a judgement call. You can wait and take revenge down the road, or forget it. They’re what, 23 years old? Younger? Dumb on their part, but maybe they will learn from it.

like

@ op they will not sue you. Because if they sue you, ppl know they go after an employee who already gave notice for some kind words to interns.
Unless they have mental issues and completely lost their mind, they won’t

That's on you. Never share anything with anyone.

lol many years ago a friend interviewed at a firm I was at and was also on my way out of. I told him to decline the offer and he did. My dick partner asked me if I had spoken to the guy. I lied to his face and said of course not.

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
