Took a call from an elderly woman once, she said, calmly, that she was dying in two days and wanted to close all her accounts settle everything. Her son was quietly helping in the background.
I was just there, silent for a moment, guided her through everything, trying to keep it together. There’s nothing in training that prepares you for something like that, I finished the call, wished her peace, and just sat there staring at my screen for a while.
Some calls, they stay with you.

That definitely had to be hard for you. Some of us take life for granite, I know I do, it just makes you realize how much we should appreciate our lives

Totally agree. It really made me pause and appreciate things more. We forget how fragile life is sometimes.

That is a lot to deal with, I guess nothing could prepare you for that. When I worked customer service I got some calls that were really sad, I can remember some from people who had just lost family members. But I never knowingly spoke to someone who was terminally ill. I give you credit for keeping it together.

Yeah, those calls hit different. I’ve had my share of emotional ones, but this one really stayed with me. Appreciate your kind words.

Wow… that gave me chills. Moments like that really put everything into perspective. You handled it with so much grace—those are the kinds of calls that stay with your heart, not just your memory.

Thank you so much. I didn’t know what to expect in the moment, but it really put things into perspective for me too.

Being on the phones is not for the weak! Good for you for doing what you could for them at that time. I’ve had some of the sweetest people call, helped people when family members passed, and everything in between. You really never know what you’ll get when you clock in.

So true! you never know what kind of call you’re about to walk into.

You handled that well I applaud you!

Thank you, that really means a lot. It was one of those calls that stays with you.

Alright. I want to get some perspective. How many men in this introvert bowl are men? Whenever I speak about my introversion, people say ‘mostly girls are shy’. WTF!

I love consulting and have financial safety doing what I do today but I sure do miss the adulation, applause and life-energy the stage brought me. It was just…so adrenaline inducing.

No, career pivot is not an option. Prepping myself for a mid-life crisis in a few years. Already off all kinds of social media because it hurts to see all the mediocre people getting famous (Sorry for the hubris).
