Trying to make a pivot to a different department at my current company. How far can I make it through the internal applicant process before my current boss finds out?

There's what's formal, and the informal.

If the job amounts to step up or such, in my company you just expect your potential new boss to talk to your current boss. Most will understand wanted growth, but still it's a courtesy

If it is lateral ... that's tricker

Most companies have it structured where your boss is notified. It is your career do what is best for you.

That can probably vary from one company to another. Have you asked your current manager if or when the get a notification?

A few months ago I had asked my manager if he receives any notification that someone on his team has applied to an internal job opening, and he said no. The only notification we would receive is if a person on the team had accepted a role on a new team.

What does your employee handbook say? Usually there's a policy. Some companies require employees to notify their boss before applying others simply require notification after an employee accepts an offer.

Looking for some advice on how to branch off into a job in tech. I’m a Mechanical engineer interested in working in a big tech company. I have some programming experience but excel mostly in mechanical and product design as well as 3D CAD. Was wondering if any other mechanical engineers have managed to make the shift from a traditional mech job to a tech job and if you could give me advice on the best path that worked for you. Thanks!

Hi all, looking for advice.

I'm a technical writer with background in the hardware and healthcare industry. What would be a better option for me, pivoting into software tech writing or project management.

Which one pays better/is better (any advice appreciated, must be fully remote role)

If software tech writing, does anyone have advice on how to break into a role or learn what it takes to become one?

For PM, I got a cert (not PMP) and am trying to decide which of these two I go with.

Any resume writer referrals? I’m trying to make the jump into project management. I have 13YOE managing cross-departmental projects and people, and I’d like to shed the general EA work of calendars/travel/expenses. But recruiters just see my most recent role is EA and that’s all they want to talk to me about. I’m hoping a better written resume will help target algorithms to get my resume viewed for other roles.

Hi! I have 9yoe in startup, hyper growth environments. I have a strong customer Quality Assurance process improvement background. I want to shift into becoming more of an IC vs people manager. Hi everyone. I'm pretty early in my career (just over 1 YOE) & not really enjoying my current role as a Consultant/Developer because of the type of projects I get combined with some mobility issues. However, I'm really interested in technical program management or project management and I'm looking for any advice on how to get there bc I've been applying, but can't even seem to get a call back.

(Also would really appreciate some likes on this post to get my 11 likes out of the way 😀)
