- print out the shot list and follow every shot and track the time.
- ask the clients how they feel about the shot and if we're ok to move on.
- learn everyone's name and say thank you
- let the client eat first
- don't let the client go directly to the director, filter though agency producer
- chat up the client to distract them from anything not going smoothly
- be ready to have hard conversations about going over and cost implications ( working with your producer).
Unless your client is a nightmare the account role is pretty easy.
I usually also take notes on client feedback during the shoot - it’ll be helpful when production or retouching starts!
I've been on a few. And sadly, there is no real answer to your question. You'll know when you get there. No two clients are the same. I learned that fast the hard way. Good luck. Anyone else?
Up front, establish a good relationship with your PM team. They will be keeping the closest eye on expenses, and will flag cost and schedule overruns. It's your job to keep PMs calm when you inevitably go over budget, and to calmly and clearly explain it to the client.
Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I’ve worked on tv commercials my whole career and have yet to be able to go to a shoot. Unfortunately reducing scopes mean it’s often more senior people who go meaning we aren’t getting the experience they were getting when they were at our level.
I’m not even really supposed to be going but my team is utilizing some of our continuing education budget to send me to learn at this shoot, which is great. I just want to show up prepared!
