You don't have to explain anything or avoid the subject altogether. Also, the company's HR cannot disclose the reason on why you parted ways. You can always say there was a "change in the company's strategy" or a "change in your responsibilities" that resulted in a lesser role for you. Ask ChatGPT or go to an HR page for better advice.

I have done this myself most recently, and on my application I have been putting “Professional Courtesy” for the reason I left and if they in quire about what that means, I will let them know that I had some experiences with my previous employer that did not work out, even though I did my best to work through it. In the end I decided it was not for me.

Why do we feel like we have to give notice to a company when they don’t give us any at all. Even when we do, oftentimes they say, “today will be your last day.”

These days companies do not offer professional courtesies. If you feel like walking out or leaving for lunch and never coming back they are getting the same vibe they are giving out. That’s your business, you don’t have to explain it to anyone.

That's a tough one, a lot of employers don't look kindly on employees who walk out. But you can also put a positive spin on it and share what you've learned about the experience. Or, just avoid the conversation altogether. Come up with a positive reason why you left in order to advance your career or find a healthier work environment.

Even given terrible circumstances it's still best to give notice. When you are interviewing for new jobs explain the reasons why it was paramount for you to walk out. It's going to be tough for them to trust you going in with that. Best of luck!

Good luck with that. No matter how shitty it is, unless your life is at stake, giving 2 wee’s’ notice is expected. Burning bridges has consequences.

So says the CEO. You guys want all of the advantages and could care less about your employees. You’ve decided that stockholders opinions will drive your actions versus paying attention to your teams. You may be an awesome CEO, but the C-suite as a whole are only looking to preserve their own interests, not the interest of those that work for them.

When you can honestly admit that, maybe we’ll see some change in corporate America.

Got an offer for SE III at a large tech company. Product I'd be working on interests me and I think I could grow more than in my current role.

Currently I make 180k base and have ISO/RSUs @ startup (60k/yr worth on paper, but won't be worth anything for a few years, if at all).

The offer is:
Base: $166,500
Target Bonus: 10% ($16,650)
RSU: 120k total (30k/yr)

Thoughts on offer? Should I counter?

Additionally there's a yearly target RSU bonus about equal to the cash bonus. Thoughts? 4.5 YOE

I got offer Letter from infosys 2.5 months back, now when I am trying to decline the offer by sending a mail to HR, it was not getting delivered as HR left the organisation 1 month back, I forwarded mail to feedback team of infosys but still got the mail from onboarding team with joining details and WebEx link, kindly suggest how to proceed in this case.

Hey guys… I’m a case worker in child safety and I’m someone who loves being outdoors/dies at a desk all day. I’m hoping to organise that at least once a week I can go to a cafe and catch up on all my case notes that need to go into the system.
So far the only reason I’ve been told no is that “if you do then everyone will want to and then no one will be in the office” … how can I convince them that I work better out of the office and get this freedom & mental break for myself?

My partner got a City of Toronto offer. Salary band is 104-121k. HR asked for his expectations and he said 115k. HR came back with a 106k offer stating nobody on the team makes that much so they cant offer it. Also said she is unsure if there is any wiggle room if any at all. I’ve looked at everyone on the team with the same titles salary on the sunshine list and the lowest I see is 121k. I assume there is an OT component of some sort but also can’t confirm. Thoughts? /negotiating advice?

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Is it really that difficult to get hired for a federal job? I was interviewed for a GS12 job but never heard back, they still didn’t hire anyone and I didn’t get a rejection. I applied for another GS07 job, was accepted, I took it, but I believe I can do better. I have a master’s and have extra graduate research experience. I am still applying to new jobs but I was told it is impossible to move up the grade level now. Everyone is telling me to stick with the government. What are your thoughts?
