Watching the Olympics. Some of these athletes are so talented and its obvious they spend so much time training and preparing. I want to someday put that much effort into my job but right now I only put in the bare minimum since I know I'll never be compensated fairly (at least where I'm currently at). Does anyone feel like they have a job they love so much to where they put in that Olympic effort?

😂 absolutely not. The best thing I can say about my job is that I don't hate it. I'm paid fairly, have decent WLB and a boss I can tolerate. That's enough for me.

Are we twins? 😂

I have a side hustle, and that I will happily put my absolute ALL into. My 9-5 job though, never. I do not get paid enough to go above and beyond to just fund someone else's pocket when they sit around doing nothing :D I will do my job and that is it. I do not go above and beyond ever pretty much! I have never worked at a place where it has actually been appreciated, it just becomes then part of the role and expected.

I have a side hustle as well that I want to expand and get a real store to sell my products out of. Currently, I work for a company that doesn't treat their employees with respect. You have to be management to enjoy the perks. And the pay is AWFUL! I have a business partner who hates his position but we just need funding to get a retail store. As soon as we figure that out I will be running from the plantation!

I love my job, and I put in my time, a good amount of time, but not the kind of time Olympian puts in.

I try to do my best, but let's not get carried away, nothing I'm doing here is going to put me on the podium wearing a medal. There have been times in my life when I felt very motivated about particular things, and I was able to summon some steady discipline and apply myself. Still, sitting in an office chair and staring at screens doesn't exactly require Olympian effort.

like

Couldn't have said it better myself! And good for you for trying your best. I need to do better at giving more to my job.

I think a lot of those athletes try so hard because it’s their life passion. I’m not sure my job is mine. It’s more of a means to an end for me.

like

Exactly. I'm kind of jealous they have a passion they can pour everything into.

Olympic effort comes at the sacrifice of literally everything else. Definitely not doing that for work.

like

My thoughts exactly.

Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever give that level of effort to a job. I can only pour that kind of energy into something I’m genuinely passionate about, and clearly work just isn’t one of those things for me.

like

Yep. Kinda cool it works out for Olympians and others but my job definitely will never be like that haha
