We had someone come in today who wanted to euthanize their dog "their way", rather than paying the bill to put them to sleep and I decided just to do it gratis because I was not about to let that happen.

Their way ??? What would that be ?

like

Taking the dog home and either 1) shooting it 2) letting it pass naturally
Both horrible (2 is horrible depending on the dogs condition and what’s going on with it.)

What did "their way" entail?

Who could shoot their dog?!? At our vet, we'll actually go out to the person's car and euthanize them there surrounded by their loved ones. Our doctor has even gone to people's homes.

Oh my goodness. As soon as I saw "their way" I immediately know it's not gonna be a good idea.

Oh. The fear of the unknown indeed. What could be their way?

I am curious what their way entails and it is too scary to think about. Good on you for being hands-on and alert about the situation.

Putting an animal to sleep can be a difficult and emotional experience, and it is very admirable that you chose to give this person a bit of comfort and compassion in their time of need. That said I don't think people know the gravity of such a procedure on an animal. I commend you for snuffing that out.

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?

This is the most sober I've been in a long time and generally I feel a lot better but it would be so easy to get drunk. Physically the consequences are what are keeping me from doing it. It makes me feel really good though and I miss the high, I am grateful that I can resist it now but at least temporarily it was a cure that worked it made me feel accepted and whole.
