I use it to take meeting notes and keep track of work streams within a deal (like the key issues in each transaction document that are outstanding) . it’s also a nice way to keep my inbox clean because I drag and drop key emails with attachments into the pages
I did not know that was possible!
Can you guys publish a how-to OneNote for deal lawyers? I read threads like this and think it sounds amazing, then I open the program and stare at a single blank page.
Its nothing special - just a way to organize notes that saves automatically and doesnt require constantly creating Word docs. Just think of it as a digital notebook that you can flip open anytime you need to jot something down. The organization is up to the user, but I keep notebooks for active and inactive deals with tabs per matter. I then have a page at the start with a chart of my to dos each day.
Yes I use it for a running to do list. Love it — notes sync across devices so I can update, etc. on the go.
I use it for everything. Keeping track of deadlines, meeting notes, personal deal notes. Anything that isn't substantive client stuff. Pro-tip: I dont know if this is default, but Windows Key + N opens up a quick note on OneNote for when you need to quickly jot something down.
Yes, it is amazing. I also use it to draft any long analysis type emails and it helps being able to refer back to them when people inevitably ask again about the topic.
Yes! I have a notebook for each client and keep my notes there. I also have a notebook for form emails and just cut and paste from my OneNote (e.g. explanation of disclosure schedule and how to fill it out, explanation of incorporation documents, sending out docs to prepare for closing, etc.)
Ditto to what basically everyone above says, also love having different pages for each tab - I have a to do tab and then tabs for each major project, with pages for running notes, etc. to keep the different deal docs straight.
Love it. Have pages for each deal and keep notes, to-do lists, can even save down emails.
I have several tabs for all kinds of things, but I use my “daily journal” a sub tab for each day (notes from all webinars/calls, email drafts, to do list), and my quick links (where I save the link to resources I access regularly) everyday.
I use Evernote and have found it to be excellent. I’ve tried one note several times in the past and have found the synchronization across devices to be very hit or miss. I suspect it has something to do with having had different Microsoft accounts and things like firewalls getting in the way. My current employer is not currently in office 365 but is transitioning next year which should make that process much easier so I may have to give it another try
