We just had our work summer party, and it actually felt like a thank-you for all the long hours. I’m curious—what does a good summer party look like at your company? And what totally misses the mark?

Ours was just pizza in the break room with a Bluetooth speaker. It screamed “budget cuts” more than “thank you.” I think a good summer party should feel like a break from work, not work in disguise.

Noo this is awful, I always feel like any party of some kind should try and not be in the work space so you can completely separate

I can remember some nice ones on the back patio of restaurants. But these days the summer party budget has gone the way of just about every other budget. It's been ages since I even thought about how we don't have them anymore.

A patio drinks sounds lovely! I think most companies have cut down on the parties they do now

Something during the work day that is a genuine break from work and good food. I am but a simple creature when it comes to that.

I agree, ours was a different location from work and it felt like a genuine break from it

Not in media but in my education role our summer party was takeaway pizza in the garden where students could still come in while managers when to a 4 star restaurant and then drinks at the Hilton! That is how not to do it

This is so not how to do it! I hate when places treat some people better than others… everyone has worked hard so reward everyone equally!

A good one I think involves something they pay for not in the same workspace so like a restaurant or they put something up in the garden/outdoor space. Eating inside the office does not count imo

Totally agree, if it’s just in the workspace it could be any time.. a party should feel like a bigger deal where the company really shows their appreciation

Additional Posts in News & Media

The argument that climate change is not man-made has been disproven by science over and over again, yet many people believe that the global crisis is either not real, not of our making, or both, in part because the news media deliberately chooses not to talk about it because it doesn't sell enough.

"Don't Look Up" is as real as it can be.

Greetings from Madison, Wisconsin. I'm a reporter with more than 32 years of experience and I feel that, lately, local television news has been kind of dead, but I am pleased to fight for it from my local newspaper. Locals love to see someone from their own town succeeding or finding out something inspiring.

I am a firm believer that this will not change for a long time, local TV will continue to live as long as we stand for it.
