My LM is so keen on small small things, not related to coding but documentation and all. Atleast once in a week I'm committing mistakes on small documentation points n he is stressing on same. Are there any chances that my probation will not be extended or is it a clue for me from my LM. He is Looping his LM and asking questions/clarifications.
Should I ask him directly or can be ignored or need to try outside. Please suggest Barclays

I’d say call some authority who would do something about it.
But it’s India, so unless you piss off modi, no authority is gonna do anything.

I was hoping someone would argue against this but I guess everybody’s aware of the insane corruption
I am sure you have an ethics call line. Call it
There will be a chorus of voices here asking you not to report but don’t let peer pressure block that voice of conscience.
Ideally anonymously if possible
Are you an expert on Indian labor laws? How do you know these practices violate another country’s labor laws?

Employee / worker exploitation is a big issue in the developing world. Kudos to OP for doing something about this!
i mean... you could always use the nuclear option. it probably won’t blow back on you directly.
i’m talking about leaking the emails, with a description, to the press. obviously you would want to think through the potential ramifications of such an action. people could get fired, work product could suffer, signed work may be canceled... but it may be better in the long run (or it may not be).
how was EY’s unlimited vacation policy bad for trump?

Make sure anything and everything is in writing first to protect yourself from any retaliation.
OP - based on what I know, if you report something, you will also be punished and most likely will be let go. Sucks to do a good deed, but such is corporate world.
Is this Deloitte India or USI?

What are you specifically observing?
I can only imagine working longer than 50 hours and not getting paid for it.
My issue with the ethics hotline is I dead about an ongoing lawsuit with an ex Deloitte manager calling it and being laid off a few weeks later

I would call ethics
2nd that ! And irrespective of outcome will start looking out for a more ethical place to work. Do it right !!

Escalate it to your engagement Partner. Do not make any accusations. Say, I am concerned about some recent emails from the IN team, which seem to indicate that some unethical things may have taken place. I don’t have any way to validate whether this information is factual and hope it isn’t, but i wanted to share this with you as I don’t know what to do with this.
Keep in mind that you’re receiving feedback form just one side. Just because someone told you they’re fired because of taking time off doesn’t mean it’s true.
I’m not at Deloitte but I would want to know vs be blind sighted and then this getting out of control.
the way i read OP’s statements, it seems the person who did the firing (manager) directly admitted that the person was fired for taking sick time due to having covid. not just a complaint from the person who was fired. that’s tantamount to an admission of guilt.
then there are emails from the manager instructing people specifically to work time without being paid. that’s additional evidence of guilt that substantiates the feedback received from the employees.
i don’t really see what the other side of the story could be. that the manager’s email was hacked and he didn’t really say those things? that someone impersonated him and he didn’t really do them? idk, the evidence sounds pretty damning.
Please talk to someone about it OP! That’s awful
Either quit or join the conspiracy.
OP - Can you explain what is the unethical practice?
It can’t possibly be extra working hours. I’m in the US at an MBB and have worked 75+ hour weeks at a stretch.
I didn’t read what the OP mentioned I’m sure it was more in the weeds of the conversation and I might have missed it.
That sounds awful though. As much as possible you should try and leak it or mention to someone else at Deloitte other than your manager because it’s also a huge liability problem. Having Deloitte stop work with this vendor will send the right message and hopefully have lesser vendors go with these unethical practices
Just CYA as much as possible. That includes but is not limited to
- Save copies by sending the entire thread to your personal email and take phone screenshots.
- Talk to a friend who is a labor law / whistleblower protections lawyer
- In writing, talk to a senior partner not directly involved who you completely trust and ask them for their advice and raise your concerns about blowback / the hotline. BCC some super close peers who can act as witness and remind them in advance to not reply to the thread.
- Whoever you raise it with, try to frame it as flagging risk so the firm can mitigate.
- Line up some interviews w/ competitors that will give you more $$$ and a title bump to soak up the tears of an inevitable betrayal of trust by leadership who punish you for doing the right thing.
