Amen! It is a real shame.
On top of being underpaid, also learned that 96% of teachers pay for their students’ school supplies.
It’s really fd up for teachers in the US. They have a lot of student debt, and many decide not to continue this career and pivot, leaving more weight on the remaining teachers.
“As one California teacher posted on Fishbowl, “I finally tallied up how much I spent on my students this past year…Over $2,300! Is this normal? This isn’t sustainable but I also can’t just do nothing when my kids can’t even afford a coat.””
It’s sickening. Well educated, in ways care about students more than some parents do and they’re paid like they barely earned a GED.
It’s the price they pay for doing a job that actually helps society and makes them feel warm inside.
