Potty as a birthday gift at age 1.
We started around 2.5 and saw success around 2 years 9 months.
2.5. 2 years and 11 months - seem to have really clicked
We started at 18 months when she became super interested in what we were doing in the bathroom. We got her a seat that fits over the toilet because she wanted to mirror us and a toddler potty wasn't going to cut it. Our 2nd is only 4 months, but I think she'll probably be around the same since it's very apparent our oldest is her favorite in the family.
We are coming up on 2.5 and haven’t potty trained yet. She shows some interest but I don’t think she understands the feelings for peeing. She usually will tell us if she pooped and has successfully pooped in the potty a few times. I think if we forced the issue she might get it but we haven’t gotten there yet. Our oldest, (boy), was closer to 3.5 years before potty training.
We started, at my mom’s insistence, around age 2, which in retrospect was too early. She is now almost 3 and we’re still not there yet 🫠
We did at 2 years 2 months, but she’s super early compared to her peers at nursery. She was just really interested and we got lucky. I think closer to 3 is the norm.
Around 2 and a half is when we started and the first few weeks were rough but she is doing well now (but will only go on her little potty and not any public toilets so we have to bring it with us everywhere for now). She was definitely not ready prior to this age.
I bought a little potty that I left visible (living room floor) around 2.5 just to get her familiar but never pushed her to use it. When I got her dressed I offered a pull-up or panties. She always chose the pull-up until one day she didn’t (around 3y and 3mo) and that was it. She was day and night trained and I could count on one hand how many accidents she’s had in a year and a half.
All three of mine were ready at 3, give or take a couple months - two girls, one boy.
I bought her a potty seat at 18 months and put it in the bathroom for her to explore. She started sitting on it fully clothed when I’d potty. Around 21 months I noticed she was hiding in corners to poop (which indicates she knows she’s going to poop before she does it). We did a three day weekend with no pants and voila, she was daytime potty trained at 21 months.
She’s 2 years 8 months now and has had very few accidents since 21 months. Still wears a pull-up for nap and bedtime because night time pee cues are hormonal and she’s just not there yet.
My first was at 19 months (bored during the pandemic) and my second was at 21 months. Both took about a week, to train for reference. I think if we had waited until 2.5, it might’ve only taken 3 days, but for my second, we were going in a trip in a couple of months and I didn’t want to pack all those diapers. Neither was night trained until after 3 y/o.
Sometimes it’s about the parents’ readiness as well as it is the child’s.
Right around 2 for both girls. We kept it very low pressure and they both picked it up in a few months
Around 3. She could’ve gone a little earlier but ended up catching a stomach bug with diarrhea. I was not about to subject either of us to that. I let her get over that then waited a couple of months and she was good to go.
We started with both of our girls just before their 2nd birthday. They figured it out at about 2.5. It took a while for them to fully get it, and for them to consistently wake up dry at night or get themselves up saying they needed to potty. It’s a journey!
