What are some good ideas to cover your butt and have documentation?

I had a senior leader tell me I should’ve done something differently when he was the one that told me how to do it in the first place. My boss remembers this the same way I did, but the instruction was on a call so there’s no documentation. I feel like I’m just out of luck here.

I typically send a quick recap after calls, even just a short “Confirming we’ll proceed with X as discussed.” It feels small, but having that paper trail makes a huge difference later.

Came here to say this! It’s very helpful if not to just put a time stamp to when decisions were made.

^do this. Follow up after every meeting. Or, better still, get whoever organizes meetings to utilize an AI note taker/meeting summarizer. That'd nip this problem in the bud.

Yep, I’m going to have to start doing this. It’s pretty infuriating when you know you’re right but there’s nothing you can do about it…

Nothing means anything without documents other than he said, she said. Cover your a** with a recap email summary so both of you are on the same sheet.

AI now has Fireflies on Teams, so you can now document every meeting and have notes on what everyone says. Pretty good accountability tool.

Seems like you need your boss to go to bat for you

Depends on how things are communicated. It's easy to take snapshots of emails and chats. For phone/teams call (check with local state laws), your snipping tool also record via video calls

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. Is it a bad idea to start by applying to a couple positions that interest me and seeing where that gets me? I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.

Which companies have best WLB, least stressed DS/DA roles? I’ve been suffering from some immunology issues and stress from work would worsen it, therefore I want to move to a company/role with good benefit (esp. healthcare) and great WLB (little chance of PIP, etc). Doesn’t have to be high-paying, as long as it can support my life (single) and long-term medical cost. Thanks in advance.

WLB is next to zero as 60hr weeks are the minimum as of late. Management feels like they are trying to push a few of us out. Was told not to expect much come year end for comp. Any suggestions on finding a new role/pay expectations?
