First thing I do is removing any form of distractions. That means switching off my phone notifications, closing tabs I don't need or moving my phone out of sight. Then I put on my focus music which is essentially LoFi sounds as a background to set the mood. Coffee used to be my go-to but I'm cutting back on it after realising it only but heightens my anxiousness. When it comes to actual work, I find that pomodoro technique really helps me get into focus mode every time. The 5 minute breaks come in handy when I need a quick recharge.
I like the removal of distractions.
I used to drink a lot of coffee during the day but cut back on it over a long time. It's hard to do, but I was feeling like the coffee just wasn't good for me. To stay focused now I make sure to get up a move around a little bit every hour or two. If I get up and move around a little bit I feel like it helps me focus my thoughts. And keeping an eye on my calendar is also a big deal for me, my big fear is being blindsided by a meeting I'm not prepared for.
I love my coffee! We may invest in an espresso machine.
I have to drink the right amount of coffee (about 3 espresso shots) to get in the perfect focus zone. I also have to remove distractions (my phone and sometimes even music, but other times I need music so it depends). I also sometimes will set a timer on my phone to help create a "sprint" mentality where I'm doing only focused work for that period of time (30 mins or 60 mins). It's easy to put everything else on hold when you feel like you're supposed to be focused on just one task during that sprint
I take like 3-4 cups a day!
I utilize what we call time boxing and standard work check list . Makes my day go smooth and leave room for mishaps
Interesting. Never heard of boxing before. Thanks for sharing!
I separate myself even if it means being a little antisocial. I also declined non-value added meetings. When you look at the time spent throughout the day.. subtract the meetings that you're in and realistically you are getting paid to listen to complaints and if you're salary...expected to still perform all job duties on time and correct.
