I agree that it should be optional. Being mandated to attend would definitely take away any enjoyment.
We have had several overnight retreats and each has been great! We do get along very well as a faculty.

When i was a director of the Kids ministry team, we had Thursday-Saturday retreats. It was always a great time of connection, training, resting, and team-building.
Go with your gut. If it does not feel right to stay, don’t stay. It is good if you attend the daytime events if you can.

I think it would depend on the circumstance and location. If it is paid for or I got payed, I would definitely go.
