They usually go in-house. Firms who aren't stupid help them go in-house, and they then send them business.
Dead and buried, unfortunately

They didn't even give me the decency of a burial. Dead and in some dumpster
I think the question is way too broad to answer simply. There’s a whole world of opportunities out there outside of BigLaw, including some which can be more lucrative and most of which are quite a bit better than BL for health and relationships. Many do just fine.
Also, if most in this bowl are to be believed, BL only accounts for the top 10…no 20…no wait 25 firms. There are plenty of other large and midsize firms where those folks can do very well for themselves. They may also go in house and become Deputy GCs or GCs with great TC.
(This became a little scattered but hopefully helpful)
That’s true but I see that as a positive. In house can mean going to a large company and working as AGC/DGC or similar. It can also mean going to a midsize or small company as GC and business partner (maybe more for transactional folks but certainly not exclusive to them).
Depending on your area of practice you can work for consulting firms (or start your own with the connections you inevitably made throughout your career). A little niche but there are roles at due diligence and investigations firms that love attorneys and if you go in or become a partner, you can make good money (Nardello, Mintz Group).
There are also opportunities to pivot to risk management, compliance etc. and if you have enough experience you can sit on boards of small or mid cap pubcos too.
