There’s definitely an above the law article with all this info. Also, you can find it on vault and nalp

like

Doesn’t contain all the details on what counts towards billables. I’ve been at two firms and those articles are inaccurate for both.

Dechert is 1950, which can include 200 pro bono (or more with permission) and 50 hours of shadowing, DEI, biz dev, recruiting, mentoring, or providing trainings.

like

When I was at Dechert I got 600 pro Bono hours counted towards my bonus

Reed Smith (for associates)

1750 in London and most other offices.

1800 in Dubai

1650 in Singapore

1950 in NYC, LA and Hong Kong

Pro bono counts up to 140 hours a year but if you meet the target on billable hours, you can count unlimited pro bono hours. So you can meet your target on billables and then max out the bonus on pro bono hours. Can also use 50 D E and I hours

like

A5, yep lmao. Reed smith is a clown show 🤡🤡

like

WSGR
1950, the following non-billable hours are credited towards this (aka they count and are bonus eligible):
Probono - no limit
Up to 50 or 100 shadowing hours for juniors (100 for 1Y, I think 50 2Y or 3Y)
Up to 100 firm citizenship (things like recruiting, mentoring hours, DEI etc)

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.

I’m a 9th year in a mostly litigation-based practice group at a one-tier partnership firm. My group’s billable hours have been low the last few years, so making partner will be nearly impossible, and a counsel position is not viable long-term in my group. What’s the best option here if partnership is the ultimate goal? Try to get a NEP/counsel position at another firm, which is likely difficult in my market, or offer to take a class cut by a few years?

I am concerned with fulfilling billable hours requirement. I’m required to hit 2100 hours yearly and I’m at ~1,500 hours and I think I’ll hit 150-180hours this month. What will happen if I don’t hit my targeted amount by the end of my year.

I had one of those VERY nonproductive days today. I think I accomplished maybe an hour of billable work, even though I had a bunch of stuff to do. I just came off a 300 hour month, and unexpectedly got a continuance on a deadline on Wednesday, and it’s like all of my motivation leeched out of me at once.

I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. I am also looking to relocate to a different state. How do I go about properly marketing myself to companies that might not take my relocation and minimal experience seriously?

I’m a first-time prospective lateral likely to get an offer shortly. I just received a lateral questionnaire that requests billable hours, rates, fees collected, etc. for the last three years. One of the reasons I’m leaving my firm is there isn’t enough work in my group so of course my hours are low.
