What do you do when you realize that although you are good at your job, you have no passion for it? And you no longer have the drive to do the work?

I'll take the other side of this debate and say that at some point you just have to put on your big girl panties and realize that work is about doing what you need to do, not what you want to do. If you want to enjoy yourself, go to the casino, not the office. If you want to earn a living to support your family, go to the office -- and for heaven's sake, stay away from the casino. You want passion, find a good man (or woman). You want to relocate your drive to do the work? Review your household budget and think about how you're going to pay the mortgage/rent, utilities, groceries, insurance, etc. if you don't focus on the job at hand. If you once had a passion for your profession, the fact is that it's right where you left. All you have to do is pick it back up. Whatever job you do, it is important to many people. You provide a valuable service that makes people's lives better. If that's not enough to rekindle your drive, then I'm out of ideas.

^this!!!

time to double down on your passions! what would you do for free? what do you find you have endless energy for? when do you feel you’re acting in your genius?
if you don’t know, then it’s time for some solitude & self-discovery 😊 no better time than now!!💪🏽

A wise mentor once told me, work may be your passion. Or work may fund your passion.

I no longer chase passion from work. Yes, I make sure I like or am interested in what I do and who I work with, but I don’t let the work define me. I like to have experiences or vacations booked in the future (or a wishlist of things to buy that make me happy) to have things to look forward to when work gets tough.

If you truly can’t bring yourself to go into work each day, it may be time for a pivot. Look into other roles that leverage what you are good at or enjoy and that remove or reduce the things you don’t like at present. Best of luck!

Find something else that you enjoy more!

Time to change

I think at that point, it's time for a change! Even if you're good at what you do, if you don't enjoy it or have a passion for it, it could start affecting your work performance because you have no interest in what you're doing.

In the same boat here. I say seriously think about what else you want to do. Nothing is perfect but find something at least you don’t mind doing and feel demotivated and dread. You might need to financially prepare to take some risks though by living frugally and not have a lot of financial responsibilities. Life is short. Sometimes there are sacrifices depending on what’s more important.

Does anyone actually enjoy accounting or finance?

I love finance. Exact numbers are my thing 😍

Look at my passions outside of work. Sometimes it’s okay to see your job as a job and not something you need to pour your life and soul into.

Get a hobby you’re passionate about. Develop a new aspect of your job that can reignite your passion. Is it your job, your workplace, or your profession that you’ve lost the sauce for? Try changing #1 or #2.

Anyone else just sitting around waiting for the ax to drop? I'm a soon to be 2nd year corporate associate who has seen work completely dry up. My utilization held pretty steady around 50% immediately after shutdown, but August was below 15 billables with no appreciable work in the pipeline. Aside from letting people know I'm available and doing pro-bono/CLE, it's starting to feel like a serious "covidcation" leading to termination.

Lit boutique v. full-service statewide regional firm as mid-level commercial lit lateral out of biglaw. Things to consider? Pay and non-equity partnership prospects are similar with similar timeline. Regional firm has a much stronger presence in my city, while boutique would involve a more national practice and possibly more sophisticated work. Fwiw I know some people at the regional firm and the people seem awesome. The boutique is full of well-accomplished and super smart lawyers. Need advice!
