I’m at under 400 billable hours ytd. I’ve had several months in a row with under 10 billables, recently saw an uptick this month (75 hours) but that’s because, sadly, I’m getting work that used to go to an associate (who is still one of my best friends) who got laid off for low hours. I’ve learned to just not think about it or I’ll drive myself insane. There’s only so much associates can do to get work, it really is up to the partners to keep us busy and learning, but with covid they’re hoarding work more than usual. OP, it’s truly out of your control. My best advice is to look around but don’t jump ship unless you have a good offer in the bag as things could change for the better.

Are you searching for another job? It’s easier to look now - you will feel more depressed and hopeless after getting the axe so put your time to use now.
@OP. Definitely understand wanting to stick around a firm a few more years, but if you’re getting in-house bites in an industry you’re interested in, it’s worth taking into serious consideration.

A1 - Also slow. I think partners are somewhat cannibalizing the low hanging fruit that would normally filter down. Us associates are basically leveraging our network within the firm for hours here and there, so there's an ebb and flow, but generally our primary practice is dead. We also have pretty junior partners who seem to lack a strong book, so there's only so much shaking of that tree that can be done.
