“I won’t be reachable during my out of office, let me know if you have any questions before I head out”. This is why I enjoy doing hiking/camping trips. I can just say I’m off the grid without phone service lol
Forget to give it
Pro
1- ensure you have a backup for all tasks while you’re gone
2- remind your manager who your backup is
I’ve been at my current company for 8 years. Upper management knows how to get ahold of me, and they have contacted me 4-5 times after hours in those 8 years, outside of times when I wasn’t planning to be online.
I agree 100% with this. Always have a coverage plan. Redirect to the coverage.

You may “forget,” but it may turn out you just have to tell them that for work/life balance, you will be using your work phone for all communications.
Tell them to call 911 if there’s an emergency (or whatever your country’s code is)
I have a newer manager who abuses this. Our engagement manager did not abuse this.
It started that we didn’t have work phones- now they still use the personal one too much. I did have a hard discussion when I started setting boundaries at work. I suddenly got bad feedback after being a great performer for ages. After sorting it out and time, they backed off. Still, they keep using my personal number. I need to keep responding with my work number.
@Deloitte. I paid off and they did chill out generally. They were a new manager and overdoing it.

We get work cellphones, why would they need your personal contact? I wouldn’t bother anyone on PTO unless it was urgent.
Did you plan your PTO in advance or last minute?
Or just give it to them and never respond 😂
