Sorry to see there haven’t been any responses to this question! The most important skill for hiring analysts is identifying is effectiveness at interacting with stakeholders to define the right solution and refine appropriate requirements. I think some effective questions to screen for aptitude for these skills is asking the candidate to describe projects they have worked on as well as what are some effective questions or examples they have for refining and guiding solutions. After these skills comes analytical skills such as scripting languages applicable to the role and analytics process such as retention, churn, regression, forecasting- typically evaluated through a technical assessment. Last is experience with various data sources; lake, warehouse, steaming structures; data modeling; data management; and specific applications. I’ll follow up with some resource links on more thoughts on building teams. Many startups are now just using fivetran and looker while having their first hire be someone (call them an Analytics Engineer or Data Lead) that can deliver values from these prior to hiring for additional analysts or engineers.
