Naming is critical…

Hello! I am looking for two new Texas teachers (0-5 years) who would be interested in participating in a study I am doing as a Doctoral Candidate at Baylor. The study looks to understand the experiences women working in the field of education have had that triggered shame and explore their resilience. If you are interested, click the link below to get started: bit.ly/ShameResilienceStudy

I actually have a little bit of a problem with it. It says if one side is the oppressor they will not encourage students to see their side.
I disagree with that. I want students to understand the goals and perspectives of both sides, and think of a way those goals might be met without oppressing others.
It depends on what "consider" is defined as. In my opinion, consider is different from understanding.
Its important to understand both sides but to consider for example that Nazis or White Slaveholders had legitimate reasons for oppressing people-- that's definitely not a thing for me.
The definition of consider is as follows:
To think carefully about (something), typically before making a decision.
"each application is considered on its merits"
Again the keywords here are "before making a decision".
Do you present topics such as American civil rights as "Do you think black people had a right to fight against discrimination or do you think White people were correct in trying to maintain segregation?"
In this logic, I disagree. I will not talk about consider the side of the oppressor. Will we discuss and deconstruct, yes, but I will not consider that there is merit/logic/rationale to their oppression.

To consider does not mean to legitimize.
CHS- missed the point completely!

@Michigan, I get the point. I also think it’s important to give students the opportunity to dissect and consider the motivations of the other side.
