Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Bain & Company Moving to strategy consulting!
Looking for recommendations for how I can transition back to consulting and mainly MBB.
Background:
10 yoe with healthcare consulting with Strategy& in APAC, Middle East and Australia on varied health insurance consultations working as a director leading data science teams.
Feel like I am losing my MC mojo and want to get some years of experience in MBB McKinsey & Company, Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group
Is there a way without cutting back on pay?
I have a fair amount of retail experience and have created a bowl to help fellow consultants who are interviewing in retail and CPG. My experience is across a wide range of topics (primarily non technical) and would love to help folks get their dream job. Would be awesome if others can join and contribute their knowledge.

As a former MBB’er I can say there are a few reasons people come here.
1. Some folks were transitioned / CTL’ed - they want to stay in consulting but most firms are horrific at integrating new hires especially as you go more senior. This is absolutely not the case here in fact we will value your experience. Plus we can go higher on total compensation than just about any firm due to our profitability/ project economics.
2. Senior exits or following an partner. - this is where I fit. We poached a ton of MBB partners to build our capabilities in the last few years. Again, our high profitability allows us to compensate these people well.
3. The most common path is MBB > Industry > Alix . We love hiring senior practitioners with real experience to lead our engagements. We recently hired a Director who went McKinsey > Chief Strategy Officer > Alix. This is a huge part of our value prop, do you want a 25 year old to lead a project of significance or someone with 15 years of relevant experience?

It's a good exit, arguably better than MBB in certain areas. Wouldn't mind making it myself once I have some more exp
Head1: the truth is more nuanced, I certainly worked more hours at MBB. It is true we have less people on project teams but those people are way more senior and aren’t learning how to walk. More importantly our deliverables usually involve driving EBITDA improvement as part of broad transformations as opposed to a comprehensive 150 page deck
Tbh I don’t know either, but from what I’ve experienced on FB, alix partners seem like the best people here— nice, reasonable, and grounded. Would not mind them for coworkers.
Nope, my SO wouldn’t be happy!
Started as a restructuring firm and is still the top firm in that area (along with A&M).
They also have a management consulting group (called Enterprise Improvement) among with a analytics / big data practice (Digital).
It’s a top tier firm with very good benefits and competitive pay compared with MBB. It also doesn’t have an up or out model which can be attractive to those not looking to make MD/Partner
Alix’s work is mostly in operational transformation/ Cost cutting areas (especially for PE portcos and ODDs for PE). If that’s something you enjoy working on, AP will be a good fit. I’ve been doing this work for 3-4 years now (at a T2), work gets pretty boring and monotonous and learning is barely incremental.
Agree with this generally speaking but has been changing drastically at least pre-covid.
