Lol, D1, lot of folks studied in their mothertoung till 10th class. That didn't stop us from scoring consulting jobs which put high emphasis on communication. Except STEM everything else has to be in mothertoung. Knowing english is just one part of learning journey. My english sometimes come unpolished but in no way that has impacted me delivering message.
I strongly favor mothertoung based education atleast till 4th grade. Young brains needs to learn culture and be proud of their heritage. English is just foreign language. None of European countries gives s**t about it. We will destroy our history and culture if we don't mold young minds at early stage.
I firmly believe every indian should study atleast 3 languages. Their mothertoung, english and any other language they are comfortable with. This is what makes us better and opens the world. Education just in english will confine you with version of our culture defined by foreigners.

I agree. I studied Telugu, Hindi, English when I was in school (with Telugu being the medium), and I still think thats the best choice for me. I can speak, write in all three languages now.

Mother tongue requirement is to break the hegemony of English- make the growth opportunities more inclusive
English is needed in primary school phase. You build your whole base based on primary and middle school...mother tongue could be second language definitely but not at the cost of English
I am making sure my ABCD kids understand my mothertoung. They shouldn't grow up thinking India is foreign land. They should carry our culture here and not the other way.
Well India is a foreign land for the kid. Kid is American. It’s all good to impart your language , religion and traditions but it should be limited to your family values and not for a foreign land that his parents came from

Looks good on paper, especially the doing away with the 10+2. The rest will depend on execution. Look at the previous post, my rant was kinda triggered by the new education policy. A bit concerned about the language requirements, mother tongue till grade 5 ? Could be disastrous
As D4 said; I went to state board, where English started at grade 5. I never felt that it was a disadvantage; most up my classmates picked up quickly.

Not a fan of the mother tongue requirement. How will that help kids get jobs?! Wish there was a greater focus on English and Hindi (though I realize south states would hate the Hindi)

Duh at medium of education should be English. Studied in regional medium schools and still kicked ass in college. It’s just a language like any other. Improved knowledge of STEM subjects along with critical thinking should be primary focus.
By the way, anyone here can point me to the official documents?
