The nerve of management for putting employees in those types of situations! I would be so anxious around the other person.
It is a possibility. It has happened in my previous job with someone. The manager didn't like one of his reports (because the report was off a lot and didn't do a great job. They argued a lot and I think HR was involved once or twice) so the best way to fire the report was a 1:1 comparison and blame performance records or blame performance to not give a part raise and corner the report into quitting. .
Not a great managerial method but works. As long as you and your manager get along, you'll be fine. 🤙
