What independent steps could a midlevel M&A associate take for business development on behalf of their (somewhat niche) specialty group?

Look through your college and law school contacts lists and/or creep LinkedIn to see who is in-house, owns a business, or works in a parallel professional services M&A sector (consulting/ibanking/accounting). Establish or reestablish connections with those contacts (drinks, dinners, catch-up phone calls or emails, events, etc.) Ibanking/accounting ppl make for great deal referral sources (if you do good work). Maybe write an article or two; ask to present a CLE or something.

Also, your biz dev doesn’t (and shouldn’t) be reserved to just your specialty or even M&A. The best originations/fee collections come from (ideally) work you don’t actually do (i.e., you end up getting ALL of the client’s work in commercial contracts, IP, EBEN, tax, etc.). This assumes the firm you are at is truly full service.

How do y’all deal with people at work who are stuck on stupid? Like they have no idea what they’re talking about and they REFUSE to learn. It’s like they have a god complex or something even with proof, maybe bc of their tenure at the company? Even if there’s valid data backing up that they’re wrong. Maybe it’s bc I’m a type 8 enneagram, but it frustrates the hell out of me!
So any advice would be lovely :)

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.
