The amount that causes you to never harm yourself or others. I tried to control it or limit it, but two is too many and one is too few. If I start I can't stop.

My definition of “reasonable” changed as my drinking got worse. I kept lowering the bar.
It kinda comes down to unmanageability - if it still feels like you can manage your life and you’re not feeling too much pain, not suffering, and not having consequences, then it sounds like quitting would be a difficult choice to make. Sobriety starts to look really appealing though once we hit rock bottom, whenever that happens to be.
Coming from someone who wishes they never tried it?! Avoid it at all costs!
Only you can decide. I’m not able to touch alcohol but plenty of others can. Maybe go to a meeting and see how it feels, and if you do decide you need help, you’ll know what to expect.
Reasonable in terms of what? Your behavior and cognitive abilities, or overall health? For the latter, about 2 drinks. Alcohol significantly raises cancer risk and other health problems that start to reveal themselves in 40-50s.
One is too many; 1000 is never enough.
I work out a lot and am starting to train for another half marathon. But, can’t picture myself stopping altogether.
I am not drinking during weekdays now….
Great!
In my experience people who have a sane relationship with alcohol don't ever ask this question. As someone who has their health as a priority, you should already know that alcohol is a poison with zero positive effects, and in that regard it's reasonable to think that a truly healthy person doesn't drink alcohol (I know many athletes that don't drink).
