I would probably do a split strategy. Depending on how much you have.
Pay down mortgage at 10% per year (typical amount before you incur charges).
Put 20k in ISA per year.
Use wife and kids ISA allowances to prevent taxes.
Put any extra into pension up to £60k per year, get tax relief at 40%+ on that its a good way to boost pot. With 25% coming back tax free and rest likely in lower rate of tax.
Short term could get up to £50k per person into premium bonds as winnings (earnings) are tax free.

Continued: I get that investing is thought of as better than paying off mortgage. I know the maths. I’ve studied economics and finance etc.
But the world is looking quite uncertain, the rate of taxes on wealth could (and frankly, should) go up, and I’m a family man so the feeling of having the house would be great.
Contribute to pension annually and make your taxable income close to zero using windfall (or salary sacrifice like 50%+ to reduce your income significantly)
Continue paying mortgage and investing into isa as you currently do
If it’s a windfall without any tax due, invest it. Way more in compound interest than paying off your mortgage.
It’s a no brainer: Pay off the mortgage (and any other debt) first, and invest the rest (or buy some gold :-).
