What is the best practice to be successful sub contacting. I've let go most of my customers , due to the sub contracting . Working on gaining new clients . Has anyone been manipulated into thinking that working for someone is better. Also how much effort is to much .

Also, I have an idea of what I should be compensated in this type of role, but any insights on how they pay compared to others would be helpful. I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?
