One thing I see recent graduates do a lot is come in thinking they know the job just because they did some coursework and completed a few projects. I do think that education is important, but there's a huge difference between knowing the principles and applying them. A general lack of humility is always going to be a mistake, and many engineers get humbled pretty quickly.
Good one
Yeah eagerness is great but it can also cause problems sometimes. I’ve seen new engineers jump into coding right away without fully grasping the system or user needs. Slowing down to ask questions, understand context, and learn from senior devs early on makes a huge difference in avoiding extra work down the line.
Agree
I used to train new engineers the ropes of design change, drawings, ECRs, etc. I had an engineer once, fresh out of college who was so arrogant and argumentive. I finally just let him be. If he's so smart, he can figure it out on his own. Best mindset for new engineers is to shut up and assume you know nothing. Just listen and ask questions. Save your smart ideas for later once you understand the process.
