I have been offered a position at a non-US B4 with a 2 year path to partner. I know one of the partners at the local firm and have the support of the regional service line lead, and am bringing a specialized skill set they are trying to open a new business around. The KPIs seem achievable and I’ll be in charm school to help build support within that timeline. Most of me thinks a 2 year path under these circumstances realistic but my inner skeptic is jaded. I’m at a midsize firm in the Midwest and I’ve noticed that we’ve hired multiple associates who all graduated law school the same year. Some are coming from clerkships, other firms, etc., but they’re all on the same graduation year. This feels like it’s setting up a squeeze down the road for these folks with respect to partnership. Is there something I’m missing or is this something that will cause issues down the road?

Those of you who have transferred offices at the same firm, how did it go? How did you present the request? I am a junior hoping to transfer from a satellite to a larger market’s office.

Pros and cons of taking a class year cut? Partner sees my potential and that there’s an actual evolution but I’m not there yet in terms of experience compared to my peers so he told me to at least consider a class year cut. How many matters is typical for one associate to handle (BL lit)? I know it is group-specific, but just trying to get a general idea. I’m a 2nd year and I am the only associate staffed on about 30 cases-meaning I keep track of all deadlines, do all day to day assignments, keep on top of following up with client/OC, and all research/drafting. Partners handle deps/court but that is about it. Is this a normal case load to be responsible for as a jr? I being dramatic by thinking this is too much?

Stub here with 3 months in. I work in litigation for a AM100 regional office. No issues with hours yet (45% over target) but just learned a 2nd and 3rd year missed their hours goal this year. Should I seek out projects from the transactional team during slow periods to ensure I hit billable, or is that frowned on?

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

I worked at my first firm between 2015 and Dec 2017, when I was let go. I didn’t get website time, but they did give me a recommendation and helped me land a job at a peer firm very early in 2018. Yet recruiters keep asking about this 3 month gap in interviews…
