There can be hard to quantify qualities that just make someone stand out. It could be their demeanor and their speaking voice. It could be that they seem to possess a sharp mind and an engaging wit. It could just be, to use Tom Wolfe's phrase, that they have the right stuff. It can be instinctive, and sometimes you just know it when you see it.
True, I think we feel it after the interview
I definitely think confidence plays a big factor. If one person walks in with swagger and a great attitude, they're going to stick out more than the nervous, fidgety candidate.

Candidates that demonstrate that they are really engaged in their practice and are enthusiastic. This is demonstrated to me, on paper, by a level of legal detail which is not just recitation of deal work or parts of litigation. Citing statues and regulatory schemes. In interviews, remember what interested you and, preferably, excited you about the kind of work you do and communicate that
