Rising Star
The 9nly subscriptions I pay for are the NYT and the economist

Start with podcasts from the economist to see if the publication is up to your taste. They also regularly plug their articles in many of them so you can hear about what they're writing.
I listen to The Intelligence, Checks and Balance, Money Talks, Babbage, and their Editor's Picks (which reads to you 3 written stories a week for free), all from the economist. I find their content fantastic and far more sane than American news.
FT also has a podcast. Great work, but I find the economist podcasts an easier listen.

NYT and I get WSJ thru my company. I find podcasts to be enough but I've legit been thinking about subscribing to the economist. Maybe unsubscribing to the NYT cause a lot of their reporting is really just veiled partisan opinion pieces, but their foreign policy reporting is ok.
Overall though, I find I get a good dose of current events from my subscriptions and a good amount of well thought out and deep opinion analysis from my podcasts.
Definitely Economist. Ignore the morons that say it’s left wing biased, it’s just normal and rational.
Economist would definitely be worth it. I am pretty sure you can view articles and everything in FT for free. Bloomberg I don't think is worth the money. If you still have a university email you can sign up as a student and get the discounted price
I will fourth (or fifth at this point I guess) the Economist. You’ll hear it’s neoliberal drivel or left-wing shenanigans because the publication views a role for government, but overall solid reporting. I don’t always agree, but I pay the subscription probably in part because of that.
