Most people will only have experience with one firm in the answer is mostly that it’s dependent on team.
I work at CLA and love it and am treated really well here but from the things people say on this app, there are definitely people at this firm that would laugh in my face for having that attitude. Still I recommend it here.
Middle market is always eager to hire experienced staff, especially if it’s B4. You’d likely get a better vibe check if you spoke to the individual folks associated with the office since each office has its own “unique” (as unique as one can be for public accounting) culture. My middle market office in SE is pretty laidback but it’s a slightly different story if you head up to NYC.
Its definitely dependent on the office. I have worked at two of the mid-size firms and can provide this:
1. BDO - amazing office, great firm, would go back in a heartbeat (relocated).
2. GT (current) - the absolute opposite (but as assumed its not entirely reflective on the firm as a whole) , firm is strong on sharing workload between offices.
Worked at Crowe for 2 years in Chicago. It was good the first year. They didn't make their goals the second year, and it was crazy. People backstabbing each other, layoffs every Friday, all the perks gone, no outings, managers checking in on your billable hrs few times a week. It turned sad and gloomy fast, and I had to leave. I loved my first year there. Hope things get better there.
