What would you do in the days immediately following a lay off? Take time to decompress or get back out there immediately? I hear the market is tough but I’m burnt out.

Definitely take a few days to decompress and reset. If you have healthcare benefits for a narrow window, set some appointments and maximize what you can while you have them. Perhaps take some time to evaluate expenses and trim a bit. File unemployment paperwork, because it often takes several weeks for the paperwork to get processed.

I suggest looking up “Never Search Alone” and follow that process it’s a very different process than what you’re probably used to, but I really believe that the process will help you find a job that you can thrive at in the long run.

Thank you very much. I’m going to look that up, appreciate you taking time to respond.

Take a roadtrip or some kind of budget vacation that won't drain the funds. Do something you wanted to do when you were working but couldn't.

That’s so validating to hear. I feel guilty taking time to myself, but I really feel like I need it.

We had a trip to Maui already booked and paid for, so we went ahead and traveled. It was the most surreal experience. Utter decompression not having a single work task or conversation on my mind, overshadowed by a low hum of "how am I going to pay the mortgage once our savings is gone."

Here it is 6 months later, and we are selling said house to be able to pay rent somewhere else. Probably not what you want to hear, but maybe it'll motivate you to decompress a little, and then get after the job hunt with a vengeance.

I get that. In a weird way I feel secure having a home to sell if need be. Savings definitely give me a security net, and at the end of the day a house is just a house.

Hello, I'm hearing product management is the space to be if you want to see a considerable bump in pay. What is the path forward to reach that role? Hi! I have been seriously applying for weeks upon weeks for a scrum master position/agile coach. But it’s hard getting an offer 😢

Please, I need your opinion on this. I have 6 years of experience as a software developer and just finished my masters degree in data science. Now I am looking for a job here in the US. I went through the hiring process with this company and finally got an offer. They offered 88k/year and I responded opening a negotiation. They emailed me back saying that I am no longer in this process anymore with no further explanation and in Thanksgiving day. Is that normal?that email really got me very upset
