What’s the best way to pivot from banking/finance in NYC/Boston to overseas, let’s say London. Is it best to contact a recruiter there, apply for jobs online, or something else? My bank is purely US based so internal moves likely won’t help. Any advice or experiences are greatly appreciated!!

Try moving to a global bank with a team in London first. You’ll need a company who’s willing to sponsor your work visa amongst other things.

You’d probably have an easier time starting out at a role in the US, then moving internally after proving your worth. Keep in mind taxes, physically moving, all of the procedures and documentation needed.

Rent in London on average is 2K-3K, a senior level analyst (AVP level) on the high end will make maybe 90-100K and there’s a 40% tax rate after the first 50K and a national insurance that’s like an additional
6-8%

Also keep in mind if you’re a US citizen you also may have to pay taxes here if you don’t qualify for an exclusion.
In the end you might walk away with 40% of your salary.

I’d say reaching out to a recruiter in London could be a great first step! They know the local market and can guide you toward opportunities. Also, apply directly to positions you’re interested in. Networking with people in the London finance scene can help, too.. do you know anyone there already? There are likely finance networking communities you can join if you don't know anyone.

I’ve noticed that HR, when explaining why a candidate didn’t get the job, tend to lean on “You’re great, but we had candidates with more experience in [skill relevant to the job].” I do believe this is true in some cases, but it can’t possibly be for all of them.

HR folks — what feedback have you obscured by offering that line instead?

Hey everyone! This is my first time posting but I thought I’d try to ask, I received a request from a recruiter to interview for a new insurance company I’ve never heard of: Branch. I need help figuring out if I’m being underpaid. I’m working in real estate private equity and I focus on fund models and property valuations. I’m currently at base $80k and 20% bonus. On top of that I have 5 years experience and a masters in finance. I’m good at my job and receive positive reviews from everyone. I feel like I should be compensated better but the company says that’s what they think I’m worth. Any help or insights would be great!

I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

Current TC 103K [88/15], offer 125k base [+discretionary bonus].

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

I am so beyond ready to leave my current job, but can’t yet, since bonuses are paid out in January. 😬

In the meantime, I’ve applied to a lot of similar roles (slightly higher) but have not heard - good or bad - from any. Is it common for companies to slow down hiring in December because of Q4 rush, people on holiday, etc.?

I have been approached with an opportunity at JP Morgan Chase for their private client advisor role. The book is about 30M all in. I am currently an experienced hybrid asset manager wholesaler and have experience in advising as well. Curious about the opportunity with JPM and if it’s worth it. I currently make about 160k and if JPM would give me a high draw for the first 3 years to build, and if it’s feasible to sustain that 160+ there.
