What’s the biggest sign-on bonus you’ve ever received, what was the role, and how did you negotiate it? I’m on my 4th professional job post college and I have requested a 5% sign-on bonus each time. Only once have I gotten it. I don’t feel like 5% is too much. Am I doing something wrong or are sign-on bonuses just not that common?

Maybe I'm the weird one here, but I've literally never gotten a sign on bonus. I'm still pretty new in my career, but none of the jobs I've had or even applied to have offered one.

The only sign-on bonus I’ve received is when one was advertised. Honestly, not as common to see now, and that is because it’s an employer's market. They don’t have to do as much to entice top talent to apply.

I'm 18 years into the professional workforce and have never once gotten a sign-on bonus. Hell I've only even gotten an annual merit-based bonus for about half the years I've worked. Neither are as common (i.e., they're not a given in every industry) as some people have been led to believe.

I have gotten both a 10% and a 30% bonus. The 30% was because I was relocating so they offered a large sign on bonus. The 10% was because I was leaving before a bonus payout.

Same for me. Had new firm match my bonus as I was leaving in December and would miss out on that year.

If I was relocating as well I’d request that either be arranged by the new company, or a larger sign on if I have to arrange it myself.

Hi all - any advice for a first time real estate investor looking to make their first purchase at the end of 2021.

I plan on saving $50K, for a $350-400K property in the Long Island, NY area for my first property. Does this sound reasonable? And does anyone have any experience & advice investing in the LI area?

Id like to rent it out for some positive cash flow that I can then start using to save for my 2nd property (sounds easy when I type it).

Thanks all for your input - stay safe!

I’m pretty good at Salesforce and have thought about a SFDC admin type role, but that’s all I’ve thought of so far.

Just signed the outside employment form in KPMG onboarding system. I actually wanted to start dabbling in creative writing as a potentially monetizable hobby, but I'm guessing this may pose issues.

Definitely interested in the "exception from this policy may be requested if provision of non-professional services doesn't interfere with one's duties of causes conflict of interest" clause, though. Has anyone been able to get one of those before?

What's the best form of compensation to ask for and why?

My employers' CEO just announced that they just received $7 million from investors. He wants to use that money to offer incentives to employees that hussle and drive more revenue for the company. We're not sure what those incentives look like yet, but here are some post-announcement rumors from my co-workers:

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.
