Just signed the outside employment form in KPMG onboarding system. I actually wanted to start dabbling in creative writing as a potentially monetizable hobby, but I'm guessing this may pose issues.

I’ve heard denials of Uber/Lyft, Rover, Wag for the following reasons
1) we audit their company
2) there was an issue with people signing up for Uber / lyft and charging through their own rides to the airport etc.
Owning your own Etsy store, creative type work, being an author, non-profit charity, fitness / nutrition business etc will all be approved
Can’t say for certain with Audit and with KPMG as I’m in tax at EY, however, I have found a theme that as long as it doesn’t directly compete or take you away from duties, it is generally approved. Creative writing on the side or being a Treasurer on a small board is very different than opening your own tax practice. Whatever the KPMG equivalent is for “Ask Independence” I’d start there. Good luck! 👍
Yeah, guess the game plan would be to first just ask HR before so much as sending a manuscript to a magazine (as while they pay a pittance, it's still paid and thus covered by the policy). As it'd technically be in freelance capacity, I have no idea if it'll be treated differently than a more formal 2nd job.
Yeah I've heard of exceptions being granted before. Mostly people doing uber or door dash, but I concur that it's mostly a concern of independence. Your creative writing wouldn't be a problem, I'd imagine
That's weird, I wonder why they're inconsistent with allowing uber driving
I've approved a few where a counselee did music gigs on the weekend. For hobbies that happen to pay a little I've never seen the request denied.
I have been wondering the same because I have an opportunity to work part time on a hobby for a small business.
Yes. I've seen this kind of exception with Uber as well. In your case, I think you'll fall under that exception since creative writing doesn't interfere with your line of work,
