It’s a sweatshop with no real culture at all. Partner only care about themselves and selling the “firm”. PE ruined it much like most firms.
I would not come here now. I always planned on being a lifer here, but I’m on my way out. We haven’t been able to hire a new associate in YEARS, despite losing 2 senior associates, a director and a few paraprofessionals in the past 12 months. We’ve also won significant projects in the past two years, so between the new work and absorbing everyone else’s job for the people that chose to leave, my group is just a total cluster. If you need help with a project, you call someone in India and hope they can help you. There is no US support staff and zero succession planning. I am up for promotion this year and I’m intentionally leaving before that happens - a promotion for me would mean even more work with even less support. Our group has 2 PPMD, 3 directors, 2 SM, 1 manager, 1 senior associate, some paraprofessionals and INDUS. So top heavy and not sustainable. It’s impossible to get anything done in any sort of acceptable timeframe. A bunch of people on our Indus team quit in the middle of busy season because they said it was just too many hours. Today there were 9 people on a call discussing potentially hiring a new associate, which will lead nowhere and we will have the same call again in 3 weeks. The people that are saying that it’s not that bad or hasn’t changed either haven’t been here long enough to know what it was like before, or are making so much $$ they can’t see straight. Don’t come here unless they offer you a life changing pay increase. The only thing that they care about is sales. Doesn’t matter if you are a subject matter expect with a fair book of business and a full schedule. Very recently I had a 70-hour week and got THREE lectures in the same week about not having enough sales and not being “in the market”. Apparently when I leave the office at 10 PM I’m supposed to meet potential clients for drinks.
Last, but not least, don’t come here unless you want to work for a place that has blatant disregard for quiet hours. I’m talking random, meaningless IT notifications pushed to your phone like a text message at 10PM at night. “We’ve updated the Graham portal”. Im talking “tax all” meeting invites sent constantly, then resent constantly, never during working hours, all of these invites and changes being pushed to your phone screens. Im talking the overworked office manager sending pointless messages and invites at midnight “blacktop repaving for the parking lot in two weeks - mark your calendars” or “ladies that jog is 6 weeks out, who is IN?” I cant see any reason why it’s necessary to flood people’s inboxes with non-urgent matters at all hours of life. Im aware that I can block Teams and email from pushing to my phone at certain times of the day, but I also need to be available to my INDUS teammates at odd hours, so it’s not in my best interest to do so. The technology here is beyond lackluster, I’m talking 3+ minutes to open a basic file. Lastly, don’t come here unless you love the reauthentication process. It’s completely normal for a GT employee to have to “reauthenticate” upwards of 12 times a day. Doesn’t matter that you are in the same location as always, using the same internet and doing the same things - there will be days where you have to stop what you are doing no less than a dozen times to pull out your phone and get a little code and enter it into a special app on your phone. If you do not do this, you cannot access Teams, email, or much else on your computer, tablet or cell phone.
Things do feel different under PE than they did, but there is still plenty of good. We pay well and have great people and clients - that’s what makes the job fun anyway. Ignore the other comments - they’re just mad they don’t get points to use towards $20 Amazon gift cards anymore.
Things were ok when I worked there 2 years ago (before PE). It felt like a toxic environment because everyone always gossiped about each other, but that’s probably location specific. I know they took a LOT of their perks away after it went under PE but since you never experienced them, you’d never notice lol
Much better than BDO
When you see Peko on LinkedIn he definitely portrays a wonderful image for the firm with its ‘multi platform.’
I would have recommended it before PE. It was a uniquely awesome place. Now it’s just kind of blah - run by people who get excited about stupid buzzwords like “platform,” “synergies,” and “efficiencies.” You get the idea.
