The inefficiency masquerading as efficiency. If you can’t run a team remotely, you definitely can’t run one in person.
I do like going into the office personally , but the best part of being remote during Covid was watching everyone come to the realization that many weak employees were skating by on presence.
It is such a tell when someone acts like those who are remote are not working. It’s either they’re that out of touch with reality or super insecure and use their presence as proof of worth.
"office culture" is my ick. let me do my work, give me money, i'll be polite, professional and respectful, but i do not want anything to do with anyone if it is not work related.
All-hands meetings that are overly positive and rah rah.
On purpose??
When people hi me on teams/slack I wait for 30 mins and hi back
I muted my finance team because of this… I don’t even want to see the “hi” notification. Just get on with it. They also never message me about anything truly urgent enough that they need to take it outside our email chains. Last message was “hi” 20 min later “can you tell so and so to confirm when they’ve updated the estimate?” Meanwhile, This person is on our email chain… they will get back to you when they complete their step. 😒
Unnecessary meetings. Often called by people to justify their job.
I can’t stand the unnecessary meetings

Working past 5
Omg this! Like it’s a brag worthy thing
So many opinions and egos and credit takers, not enough people doing the actual freaking work.
Small talk while we wait for the meeting to start
Walking down a long hall where you spot someone on your team and fake smiling while crossing path
Yes! And all that small talk supposedly makes you so much more adept, business-minded, and more trusted by clients.
The fake saccharine requirements of working in the office is a big part of why remote work suits me best.
I have a hard time being in the office when other people don’t have as much work to do around me and they have very loud conversations across the creative area with me in the middle (L shaped layout with multiple desk assigned). I put headphones in but it’s like please just walk over to the desk don’t yell over me lol.
“A good idea can come from anywhere.”
My reply is often, “a bad idea can come from anywhere as well.“
-Referring to the organization as a “family”.
And my personal favorite:
-Blatant, unashamed ass-kissing, ego-stroking, and chumming it up with a powerful manager known to be a toxic, condescending, egomaniacal jerk.
Adding to the “ass kisserry” when someone is talking to you and then someone in leadership walks by, they immediately jump from the conversation they’re having with you to jam their nose as far up their ass as possible! Could you be more transparent in your freaking brown nosing!
Agency has a never ending “bagels vs donuts” debate that’s brought up every town hall to distract everyone from the fact that we‘re losing clients, people are silently getting laid off and no one’s getting raises.
For anyone that works at this agency, you already know, and please stop entertaining this. You’re doing exactly what they want for “office culture” yet you’re working overtime because there’s no budget to replace your team members that got laid off. But please do eat the free food.

“Any big plans this weekend?!”
…for the account team to ruin!?
“Culture” events on my time. I spend more time with my coworkers than my family most days. If the company wants to throw a party, fine… do it during business hours. Nights and weekends I’d rather spend with my wife.
