When a lateral application asks whether one is currently in "good standing", does this mean in good standing with one's current firm (and if so, does that mean that one is meeting the required hours, or not on website time, or something else?) or does this mean in good standing with the Bar?

Just answer “yes.”

it just means is there anything really bad going on with you that we should know about

just answer yes, but what this means is if you received any indication from your firm that they are considering whether to keep you around.

Why do many associates at top tier firms stay to make Partner when they can go in-house in tech and make around the same, even long term? For example, you can make near 400-550k in-house at Google, Netflix, FB with 8-10 years of exp. More senior than that in-house, it can easily break $1M.

Hi boys & girls!

Joined a big firm (Big4) not long a go and starting to feel like I got a good grip on my current work.

I've always been very technical, so I think that the only thing I am missing now is making sales. (I really wanna make partner)

Can any seasoned lawyer share tips and materials (i.e. books) which can help?

Would it be a good idea to join a Social Club where potential clients spend time? (gym/tennis/paddel/events)

Any advice welcome!

My mentors (partner & senior) have scheduled a feedback meeting with me on Wednesday. It’s not just me, they’re scheduling meetings with everyone so I’m probably keeping my job. Thing is, I’ve been incredibly frustrated with the firm - I’m buried in work and billing like crazy, but there’s zero transparency on financials and zero communication on bonuses (...)

Struggling to get work at a free market firm after lateraling. I was very well liked at my prior firm and had high hours so really struggling to understand why folks don’t seem to want to come back to me with more work. For those at free market firms, how frequently do you have to ask for work? How do you typically ask? Just send partners emails asking if they have any deals for you? Thanks y’all.

I’m scared shitless that I’ll spiral out of control both at work and at home if something doesn’t change soon. Any suggestions on how to keep this job and keep it together?
