When was the 9-5 workday EVER a thing? Assuming one hour lunch break, that's only a 7 hour workday.
10-4 is my work day accounting for commute
Lunch time used to be covered by the employer as it was understood a requirement for life sustainment and productivity. Now lunch is on your own time..
People started working 5 extra hours a week for no salary increase

I don’t know of a single person that has ever had a “real choice” in the matter. You work through lunch or it gets frowned upon or you get labeled as a “clock-watcher” and instantly scruntized. When really, it’s putting a healthy work/life balance in place. Unless your higher ups do the same or 100% respect the healthy boundary…they WON’T and YOU run the risk of not really having a secure job.
Bottom line…If you don’t make the company MONEY and lots of it, they will find someone who will…younger, CHEAPER, less opinionated…not a “clock-watcher.”

Well 9-6 is normal if you’re taking an hour for lunch. Workdays are 8 hours last I checked. Personally, I work 7:30-4. That’s the exact same amount of time as a 9-6 lol.

I do like 10 to 430.
Also do ppl really take an hr for lunch? Lol we're just in meetings all day, and I've never heard anyone say sorry I can't make it I'll be at lunch 😅
The one time I was out of the office for lunch for the entire hour was my birthday, and went with a few people. In our absence, someone walked around, saw empty desks, and freaked out. We were admonished not to repeat that scenario.
Yeah For some reasome everywhere I went (except ONE company) I always had to answer the phones. I hated it. I suppose because the atmosphere and environment wasn’t right. Now it doesn’t bother me (comes with age I suppose).
…plus commute.

Yep. Let’s not forget that amount of time wasted…EACH. AND. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
They made it 9-6 when the state made it mandatory to provide employees meal and rest breaks.
