I used to work at a Sheraton. There were a lot of factors I considered when making an upgrade. Primary one was availability. If you’re only staying for one night, you’re more likely to get an upgrade. If you’re staying for more than one, I might need the suite for the second night but not the first because someone actually paid for that suite. Other factors I considered other than status level was how often they stayed at our property, their rate, if they’re with a group or not, when the person before you checked out (so we can get the room cleaned), etc. Also, these decisions typically happen prior to check-in. You might just not know about it until you come to the desk. It’s worth it to call and ask though if you have a special occasion or something. If a titanium elite were to walk in and ask, I’d do my best to accommodate. I’ve had a guy who’s been a titanium elite for years and never got an upgrade so I went out of my way to accommodate him. Other people I’ve upgraded are people who have called and asked because it was an anniversary or something.
Thanks so much for sharing! Will call them up and check a day ahead.
Ritz does not honor suite nights unfortunately. Westin will.
Same experience w/Ritz on Maui - they upgraded us when we arrived.
First rule is: ask!
