When did the background check process become so intrusive for standard jobs? I just had to provide five professional references and a 10-year employment history for a mid-level individual contributor role. They’re treating it like I’m applying for a Top Secret security clearance at the Pentagon. I had to track down a manager from a summer internship in 2016 just to satisfy a third-party screening company’s verification process.

Meds. Take them.

Simple, because they can. The market has flipped and now employers hold all the cards.

Correct

Is it remote? People in HR are getting flooded on remote positions with automated applications, so they put up more and more speedbumps to winnow the field.

The extensive background checks can feel excessive, especially for roles that shouldn't require such scrutiny. Companies often prioritize security and risk mitigation, but that shouldn't come at the cost of a candidate's time and privacy. It might help to ask potential employers about their processes upfront during interviews. Being candid about what you find burdensome could open a dialogue about the hiring experience. After all, a strong candidate experience can reflect positively on the company culture. The extensive background checks can feel excessive, especially for roles that shouldn't require such scrutiny. Can someone help me understand why people are pumping crazy money into DoorDash and AirBnb but didn’t go equally Gaga for Palantir?
Don’t get me wrong, I like DD and Airbnb, but the $100+/share seems odd to me given that both are susceptible to regulatory and overall consumer confidence. I was able to buy into PLTR for $11/ share fwiw and think that company has better long-term upside prospects.
But again, would love to better understand the DASH and ABNB mania. Feel like I’m missing something

I’m trying to collect some supporting reviews/feedback from some of my stakeholders for an upcoming employee review cycle (we don’t do 360s). Can anyone advise - if I did not file taxes for 2019 and 2020 is there a way I can file without receiving a penalty? I just didn’t file them no great reason. Nothing complicated and I probably owe a few hundred each year in fed taxes. Nothing crazy.

Advice plz.
I was given a verbal offer from a firm. The base salary offered was much lower than my min expectation, so they offering a sign on bonus to get me closer. I asked them to see how much closer they can get me to my minimum target. They came back with a slightly higher signing bonus but the base salary didn’t budge. It’s still not my min salary requirement.
This is all over the phone.
They are sending me written offer soon.
Can I still ask for more because the base salary isn't great.
