Great question, and yes (for me). While not all get pushed based on their portfolio, not saying it's not of good/high quality, it's based on what we know our client is looking for.
If our client is looking for more traditional print design, and all you have is UX/UI, then the likely hood is minimal our client would want to interview you.
But let's say you have a diverse portfolio, but our client really wants to see work from QSR/Restaurants and you don't have anything from that industry, but your work in amazing, I'll want to speak with you because you either A. might have something just not posted or B. who cares - your creative work, your experience, and your personality all align with the client/team environment.
Hope that helps a bit. Happy to go more into it. I LOVE sourcing creatives.
Thanks for that. Thats very insightful. If i may ask, i was wondering if sometimes you let a candidate know their work was put through in front of the relevant players more as a formality if their portfolio gave you a lukewarm reaction, or is that usually done when you are feeling the candidate actually has a decent chance to jive well with the team and ultimately secure an offer. Basically do you usually only select candidates if you yourself really like them and believe in them, or do you take more of a “cast a wide net” approach?
For a little bit more detail, i know a recruiters job is to find right matches for the team, among a ton of other things. But i was wondering if during the screening process, you are able to make a judgment call yourselves based on the quality of the candidates portfolio- to decide whether it would be a waste of time to have them speak with the rest of the team or not
