There are a couple of things that might influence whether or how far you proceed in the hiring process. First, the easiest thing to do is to make sure that your resume is properly aligned with the job qualifications as sorted by AI screeners. This is important because you need key words in your resume to match the posting. Second, be aware of any obvious gaps in your resume that may require additional upfront explanation. At this point in time, many candidates have been fired or RIFd. Just be prepared to speak to it. Third, be prepared to address any concerns as to how you present yourself during the interview process.
That’s great advice! Thank you. I keep all of my previous resumes on file. I’ll go back and tweak a few things based on your counsel.
I think it depends on when you're rejected. If you're not getting a first round interview (or even a screeningcall from a recruiter), then you're either applying to the wrong roles or you don't have a good resume.
If you're not getting past the first round, it's your interview skills.
If you're not getting an offer after a final interview, then it's not you. You're just up against some fierce competition.
I would add that if you are senior (15+ years of experience on your resume) and/or look middle-aged, you may be getting dinged simply because of age discrimination and not because of any personal shortcomings.
