Same. I only make $250-275k. 10 years since graduation so I’m a little underpaid for what I do but damn, it’s nice not having to manage anyone and working less than 40 hrs/week on average.
And no billing! A dream
Your salary isn’t the norm. People take on more for better opportunities and money. If I made that and worked 40 hrs per week, I would never leave either. In-house isn’t up or out so you can coast as long as you want and they let you. Ps. What industry & Col?
Chief
i make about half but im only four YOE of total legal experience but learning tons. love it
How many years exp do you have to get that 400k comp?
Chief
16 YOE
I make about 320k as IC (6 YOE going on 7) but think about the same thing. For those that have made the move to people manager, is it worth the money (if it is even higher)?
Chief
yeah u would it only do it for the love of the game
I’d take an IC role forever if I could pull it off.
Nope. I don’t need to be GC, but I’d like to at least be the head of my specialty area and report directly to the GC.
That’s a sweet spot I think
Happy to stay IC. The first level of management. = massive increase in responsibility and the pay bump isn’t worth it. If there were a predictable path to GC/DGC maybe it’s worth it, but you usually don’t know if you’ll be in that fire for 2 years or the rest of your career, because openings for jobs above you are totally random and outside your control
