Being brutally honest: it’s bc they are professional hall monitors.
It’s not a field the smartest and hardest working people are desperate to break into. I view them as dumb / lazy people who go on power trips because they are insecure about their place in the world. Not really people I want to interact with any more than I have to.
I’m genuinely curious to know what kind of power trips you’ve experienced from those in compliance 🤔

Because people do mental gymnastics to convince themselves that we aren’t all on the same team.
We're all working towards the same goal, I don't think that's easy for them to believe...
In my field, our compliance people are nice enough... though a little odd socially. It's more that compliance represents the company's best interest and sometimes that prevents the employee from trying things and being creative. This makes sense for big companies where creativity and individuality would create nightmare scenarios for compliance, but is still disheartening sometimes.
