If you have cash that you want to invest. Please consider Treasury Series I Savings Bond (Electronic). Interest is 7.12% right now. While it's not guaranteed that the 7.12% will remain until next year, it's still a good deal.
My SO and I just invested 20k (10k max per person even married).

Not if you don’t want to be partner at that firm.
Maybe their book of business wouldn’t mesh well with with the current firm. I know people who moved to lower cost firms because their book was easier to build with lower rates.
Also might be that the firm said we don’t think you’ll make partner here. Or the associate saw that there was a runway of superstar associates ahead of them and looked in the mirror and realized their chances of making it were low.
At many (most/almost all) firms you don’t make partner just by hanging around long enough. You have to be a standout performer and have the factors that the firm thinks will make you a good partner (ie, accretive to the partnership as a whole, whether that’s by potential to add clients, fill a niche/specialized knowledge area, etc.)
Did this because I didn’t want to be partner at my prior firm and they were going to make me partner at 8th year
